Albeit the hustle & bustle of this city, HongKongers do take time off their busy schedules to spend on quality food and entertainment. Karaoke is one form of it, and going on hiking trips is popular among the younger generations as well.

talking about food, it will be never ending as HK simply has too much good food to begin with.

during my trip, i sampled some of the best dishes i have ever had and I hope to discover more during my many trips to come! (: grateful for all the frens out there who mean so much to me. yarpps.

aights. so me daddy & wilson headed to wheelock for dinner last fri night. that restaurant dont take reservations, so we tot it d be good to head down say 745 n hopefully get a table. oh boy we were so wronggg. the place was packed to the brim with a line of waiting patrons. we waited..and waited...and insisted on stayin put outside the restaurant instead of walkin arnd wheelock like the other do. (we thot by doing that the manager may jus pity us and let us in..unfortunately NOT) thn after a WHOLE 45 mins, we got our table. hur hurs. they ve got the hokkaido specialties from Japan! some real yummy deals.

first up we had the hokkaido sushi roll; sushi roll with soft shell hokkaido crab inside dipped in mayo and veggs bits. it was really substantial and wholesome. (: the crab tasted fresh.

then we had the sashimi platter of 5 kinds. the scallop, salmon, mackerel, tuna, and prawn. i love the sashimi over there because they are forever so fresh! and u can tell they dont scrimp on quality at all.

after the raw stuff, we had semi-raw stuffs. hur hurs. we ordered the half cooked fish sushi. it tasted really interesting. the outer layer is cooked fish, while on the second bite, u get a mixture of both. real cool deal.

of cos, whats jap food without some umeshu eh. the umeshu at sun with moon is fabs. love the sweetness paired with those savoury bites. its these joyous moments of having good food with good company that makes life wonderful. -beamms-

next up was the tender pork slices. these slices are from the cheeks of those piggies. hur hurs. very tender and juicy. i suppose they didnt use much oil to cook this. basically they allow the oil from the pieces to ooze out and cook the meat in return. drizzled with black pepper bits, the hearty dish is a must-try.
thn we ordered the pot rice to share. 2 for 3 pax. i chose the seafood while wilson had the unagi one. really good. but the portions used to be more substantial. they were more generous with the ingredients in the past. now they scrimped on the no. of fish pieces or scallops or prawns. OH WELLS.

after those savoury items, desserts of cos must come! (: those desserts at sunwithmoon somehow always gets on me. im like tempted to try everything. oh wells. i had the green tea parfait in the end. something that i really like but always cannot finish. but i was feeling hungry that night larh. so had the whole thing to myself. -beams- its real good!! its a scoop of green tea icecream topped with a waffle pc lying on top of a bed of jellies, rice balls, cornflakes, syrups, and more cornflakes. dad got the black sesame puddin while wilson had the oh-so-boring green tea icecream. (: after that headed off to gym. haven gymmed for so longg. mmms been tinkin alot these days. keep reflecting on the facets of life. its like technology has advanced so much. communication made faster thru so many channels. yet we are becoming more distant from each other. u find urself facing ur com more than anythin else. have we forgotten the significance and basis of interpersonal relationships? i guess besides letting ourselves sink deeper into obsession with the rat race.. we gotta constantly remind ourselves of aspects deemed less important in today's society. i believe sincere and meaningful relationships are still important because that prevent us from losing that tinge of humanity in us. in secondary sch, we have our groups of frens who are always there for each other. hangin out with each other more than we hang out w our siblings. less of these can be said as we grow older. i find ppl becomin more superficial. besides achieving academic goals, it seems like we go uni to just expand our network as fast as possible. of course,im generalizing here. im sure there are many out there who disagrees with me. but i guess i just so happen to be one of the few who maybe experiencing frustration with how hectic sch is and how that caused me to forgo times when i can simply spend with my loved ones, be it frens or family.

hur hurs finally ranted.i rest my case.

AIGHTS moving to a lighter note. while filming for MA a week back or so. i ate at miss clarity's again! the first was with jialing after we mugged in sch one sunday a few weeks back. heee love spending time w that girl. (: that place s becoming more pops among the working crowds at bugis, as well as its thomson branch. i guess its the bright colored decor that attracted them. its decor really puts ppl off all the stress they face at work or in sch. (: thn the 2nd time i went w my MA grp mates. david jong & wong! (: they had the set lunch while i went for the squid ink risotto. hur hur guess i wanted to try all the squid ink stuffs with ppl who didnt mind me lookin bad. HA. here it is!

the risotto s nice and chewy. and the prawns n aspartme that came with it are plentiful too. its good value for money. (: wong's red wine risotto s duper nice tooooo. can really taste the wine in it. (: not to mention, we had desserts!! had some choc lava thingy. its DUPER nice. great for those yearning for a strong sugar rush. the vanilla ice cream, together with the warmmmm fudge choc lava cake. omg. its the ultimate sinful indulgence. hur hurs.

aights off to sch for choir now. (: liyan s interning at Charcoal Restaurant, this continental-fusion cuisine place for SHATEC students to apply what they have learnt. based on my self-acclaimed geographical sense, we somehow stumble upon the restaurant after wondering around aimlessly, with no specific address. they have got dinner sets gg at $28nett and other ala carte items. liyan recommended a weekday to come and since jingmin likes tryin new stuffs too, decided to bring her there.

we were greeted by warm and friendly staff at the door, and they politely showed us to our seats. what i like about gg to restaurants like these is that you get rather good service. or should i say, willing good service. these students are passionate about what they are doing, and their service shows it all. we ordered two dinner sets each, and its was a 5-course italian cuisine dinner. i like it that they serve warm bread as a starter. ours was a tomato based bread roll that tasted good with the accompanying olive oil

first up was the tapas dish. it consists of 4 quaint lil looking foodstuffs. one was tomato w cheese sandwiched in between. one was parma honey ham(if im not wrong). one was a salsa mix on top of a biscuit crisp. the last one was a small portion of side salad. i liked the ham the most. it had the least condiments or sauces, but it tasted nice. the rest were alright.

the next dish was the soup. its supposed to be tomato based soup with vegetables i tink. however, i didnt really like it. the soup was not thick enough and the mushrooms floating around made the soup look unappetising. the side puff pastry stick was yummy tho. hur hurs. thn we were served a small serving of soursop sherbet to prepare us for the main course. (:

there was a choice between 2 main courses; duck leg with mash potato and seasonal vegetables, or squid ink frutti de mare. both of us ordered the duck as we were afraid of gettin stained teeth. however, i guess we made a mistake. the duck served looked nice and well cooked. sadly...my duck leg was not cooked properly and i had a tough time tryin to cut up the meat. not wanting to spoil the dinner, i jus pressed on in my quest to disintegrate meat so tough u ll never imagine them breaking apart. my efforts to finish the dinner was so ridiculous i had to make a suggestion upfront to the staff regarding the wellness of the dish. although mine was undercooked, jingmin's seemed alright, so i guess its jus me i hope. the mash potato at the side was not bad, with a really yummy sauce to go along. they also had a sweetened pear at the side. tt was rather refreshing as well.
finally, dessert is served. i tot the dessert was the highlight of the dinner. hahas i felt happy to see it nicely decorated and all. i liked the chocolate strawberry. dipped in both white and milk choc, the sourness of the fruit went well w the sweetness. the creme-like dessert is also flavored adequately in lavender essence. i must say i enjoyed the dessert the most for this meal. cheerios to the dessert chef! LITERALLY. aight aight. got down to bugis. yolkies bot a sweet lil ring for leen! so cute. thn we headed off to funan.

we were meeting ivan, daffy, colin & weylin at cafe del amigo. this french and continental bistro. opened by a jolly good mister called TOMMY!he s always smiley and happy. he & his wife oversee the operations of this restaurant to the finest details of serving regular customers. really impressed by their efforts. this place started in the 70s at the now non-existent Marco Polo Hotel in Tanglin, before moving to Orchard Specialist Centre. and now they moved to Funan the IT mall. its tucked away 2 shops down from Surf 'N' Turf on the 2nd level. (:

ivan was there first, followed by us, and the rest subsequently joined. the menu of the restaurant, interestingly, is just a paper booklet. really got the old school western restaurant kinda vibe eh. then they ve this BYO wine policy. where there s free corkage of wines! yumms. besides that, they ve got a hugggeeee range of reds & whites. dont ask me, im not an expert in wines. but coming from an amateur's point of view, i tink they do give customers a wideee range of wines to choose from. Tommy was nice enough to tell us about the wine that ivan bot for the table and it tasted great! i shant attempt to analyze the wine. but thanks ivan for the pours! (:

finally, Tommy's wife came by to take our orders. weylin & ivan ordered the wagyu beef that Tommy offered us in place of the Argentinian Beef we were originally there for. (sad but trueee. the AVA banned its entry. GRRS) weylin also ordered the breaded cheese. colin ordered the oxtail plus lobster brosque (which they re famous for by the way). thn i wanted sth light.so i went for the leng fish fillet. yolks ordered pork chop and daffy ordered the pork ribs with spags. (: on top of that, ivan ordered a side of fries. their fries came first. it tasted really different from the fries we get from macs! its like crispier but it is still soft inside. delicious.

my leng fish fillet was nice!! it had almond flakes with freshly cut pieces of tomato. the sauce is a slightly dilled butter sauce and the fish is lightly seared. the vegg on the sides were alright. but the fish s really fresh and good. the portion was just right for me too. but if it was for a guy, it may be a teeny wee small.

yolks porkchop looked good too! she gave it thumbs up. but she regretted not ordering the pork ribs spags. cos daff's dish really looked yummy. over dinner, we talked alot.about the different kinds of experiences we had overseas, with food, cooking, baking, all sorts, really interesting to hear stories of others' lives. (: & i really appreciate the fact that i got a chance to know these people. really wonderful people. yarp! thanks to all of u last night. i enjoyed myself.
to end off the meal on a sweet note, ivan had for us the icecream PX. omg. first time tryin that. its basically vanilla ice cream in PX wine. its really goood! like the combinations of sweetness from the 2 seemingly separate components was exceptionally surprising. i ll definitely go back for more.

sadly..their oven was down and they didnt sell the apple tart they re famous for. AHHH oh wells. shall come back for their desserts next time (: we stayed there to talk on & on. only me yolks daffy and ivan stayed on to tok. enjoyed their company tonnes. ks. thn Tommy's wife came by again. & offered a delectable spread of cheeses & crackers!! really nice of her. there was blue cheese, brie, and this buttery taste-like cheese. really yummy.

after dinner, we finally lugged our heavy tummies to timbre!! (: met leens & we listened to timmys play!! (: what a wonderful day. beams

Cafe de Amigo

French & Continental Bistro

Funan IT Mall #02-15

Tel : 6835 0238

times never to forget

met jie on monday! like FINALLY. omg. super long never see him laaa. we always procrastinate in meetin each other. sadly. but i guess its kinda inevitable. like we can only expect that much given that we study in different schs n all. but still happy to be able to catch up with him la. n its jus like the old times. silly fun. that s the thing. yarpps met him at geylang. hur hurs. that place s getting on me man. i shall not go there again anytime soon. its kinda. urhh. dodgy. hahas anws. met him there at 7ish after my tuition. both of us drove! luckily its mon. not very crowded. went to revisit yong he company. the one that sells long long you tiao. yes! but this time. decided to try sth new. ordered the shao bing there. its niceee! (: decided to try something different. so met at central! i saw that brightly lit restaurant from the outside right at the small corner. Pasta de Waraku. its this italian-japanese fusion restaurant that serves alot of pasta dishes. they have over 50 different kinds of pasta. each with their own unique taste. they have several different sauce bases to choose from, mainly cream base, tomato base, creamy tomato base, basil base, soup base and so on. they also serve baked food items. had a hectic day at school, rushing through my intro to politiks presentations and all, thats why was lookin forward to a good dinner. sup to meet david as well. but he had a dinner with his mum, so we went ahead first.

the pasta dish is reasonably priced, $12.90 average for each one. More exotic ones like cod roe pasta will cost abit more of cos. each pasta dish came with a side salad. I concluded that most side salads that is served in restaurants these days cant go too wrong. the one i had was quite nice, serving as a refreshing starter. I ordered the salmon with tomato basil linguini pasta. jialing had the chic mushroom creamy tomato linguini pasta. both dishes were nice! (: i went on a monday evening, and we had to wait about 15mins in queue. can so imagine what it ll be like on a weekend night. gosh.

my pasta came with chunks of salmon and tomatoes. the salmon was a tad too salty though. tasted like it was soaked in salt. eew. but the pasta itself is alright overall larh. the pasta sorta neutralised the saltiness a little.

jialing s pasta looked nice! its like tomatoish and creamy looking. really appetising. hee. i feel that this place is abit overrated with the media publishing. the variations are innovative no doubt, but i think somehow goodness will be compromised in the process. i like the decor of the place doh. really nice ambience as it overlooks the Singapore River and Clarke Quay. yarps. after dinner we went for dessert! the hokkaido ice cream. so yummy. my fav black sesame ice cream ran out. BLARHHH so i had to go with the green tea one. yarps sat by the river and jus chatted with jialing. feels good to hang out w her again! (: nice company.
thn we left to timbre to meet david! that david was late!!! by very alot lah. but since he s leaving, we forgave him. cheryl came to join us with ah cai. hee we jus chilled and listened to michaela sing. this girl s power !!! she can play and sing well at the same time. gosh. and she plays the piano by memory. -applauds- so funny.

yarps. hope david enjoyed his small lil farewell. and the songs ling and cheryl dedicated to him. all the best in manc david! (: AND i also met the people behind Only Slightly Pretentious Food.they are siblings! brother and sister. both of them can cook very well! really impressed by their recipes.esp molten lava cake. hur hur hurs. its a lady killer. anws. the menu for the night was spectacular. a full 8-course French meal served in tapas size.

first up was the complimentary bread. the whole grain oatmeal bun is nice! warm and fluffy. and its good that the service staff replenishes ur buns once u finish em. freeflow of bread thru the night. quite a few varieties to choose from as well! (:

then the cold appetiser came. its hokkaido scallop carpaccio and barracuda fish mousse with miso cream. its really niceee. the scallop carpaccio is fresh and sorta melts in ur mouth. the fish mousse went well with the the miso cream and it is indeed very appetising. we ate that and drank the red wine. went pretty well! (:

after the soup, which s foie gras tortellini in jasmine tea perfumed duck consomme, the hot appetiser came. its escargot with herb-garlic butter crust on button mushroom gratinee parsley oil and arugula salad. its nice! the button mushroom absorbed the essence of the herb garlic butter and when i popped it in my mouth, i could feel the sauces explode from the mushrooms. very nicely done. people have said that u need gettin used to when it comes to eating escargot. but the way the chef did it last night, i tink i dont need it at all.

then the well acclaimed pasta came. it is the rigatoni pasta tossed in crutacean oil, tiger prawn, shaved bottarga and parmesan cheese. the crustacean oil really did the trick for the paste. it tastes different from olive oil, and it has a much richer texture to it. as some of us were saying, if angel hair pasta is used instead, it d ve been better since angel hair pasta can absorb more flavour as compared to the hollow rigatoni pasta. but the king prawn s nice. its not overcooked and it still retained its freshness thru its crunchie-ness.

the fish was next, and its is char-grilled King George Whiting Fillet with toasted mustard seeds ad saffron-tomato sauce.well that is a fish i have never tried before! (: its nice and soft, with edible bones, jus like unagi. love it. it went well with the tomato sauce as the sauce gives the fish a tinge of sourness while the fish gave out its sweetness. this is one dish i wished i had more! (: in a right portion as well.

the main dish of the night. TADA! its the slow cooked oxtail in feuille de Brik parcel with truffle butter and Jus Gras. the parcel is surprisingly crispy but a lil too oily. the oxtail is nice though! the flavor is really intense and packed within the small Brik parcel. the truffle butter went better with the oxtail as compared to the Jus Gras. this dish went excellently well with the red wine.( thanks Evan for the red and Ivan for the dessert wine ya! enjoyed it tremendously.)

last but not least. its dessert time!! french desserts are oh-so-forever good. last night s dessert was passion fruit symphony. there is the souffle, creme brulee and macaroon. of cos! they all are passion fruit flavored. the macaroon pcs are a tad too sugary for me. but the cake sandwiched inbetween is good. it is sour and sweet to the right degree. the creme brulee was not bad. but the top layer could ve been more caramelized. (: the souffle is normal as well. nothing special about it. but i really liked the sandwiched cake. hur hurs.

we took like 3 hrs plus to finish the whole 8-course dinner! gosh. thn i rushed off to meet yolks hanqin & cedric. guessed they waited for pretty long. felt q bad. sorry people! went to oosh to chill. that place s niceeee! thn we were camwhoring and jus chilling out. nice ambience! dempsey s sucha a nice hangout. but acc to some floggers, its long passe..mms i shall check out sunset way soonish! gosh. cos of mild hangover and all. but all s good. but the thing is. i cudnt really think straight. so after class, i blindly and hilariously followed shieh yuan towards PS.when im sup to stay in sch. omg. thn i gave up and jus went to cathay starbucks to bum arnd. hur hurs. waited for wong to finish his clinc at brewerkz there and then we headed over to geylang!! justinHOW and alicia cudnt make it. oh wells. so we went to the famous beef kway teow stall. its called niu he da wang ( king of beef kway teow).

the serving for two s HUGEE. i was cravin for some coconut. so ordered their premium thai coconut. surprisingly, their coconuts surpass the dish itself. the beef kway teow smells good and all, but the taste is mediocre. i couldnt really taste the seasoning of the beef and the noodles were clump-ish. hmms. didnt really match the exhilaration that people gave when they tried it and told me about it. hahas but its NOT BADD LAA (as what we always say when sth good turns out not-so-good). the coconut s duper fresh though! the flesh is soft and cooling. very very nice. some coconuts are either too ripe or unripe, and the flesh will not be as soft.

after dinner then we headed next door! to the tauhuay stall. its called Yong He Eating House. it serves alot of authentic taiwanese cuisine. apparently they came all the way from taiwan. wong ordered the cold tauhuayzhui with the you tiao. oh myy. the youtiao s LONG. uber LONGGG. longest i ve seen. hur hurs. but i tried abit. its crunchy and not-so-oily. they also serves shaobing which is taiwanese pastry where u can choose ur filling. either meatfloss with egg or plain. yarpps. they also got those meat dumpies (xiaolongbao) as well as the oyster vermicelli, which they are famous for as well. its open 24 hrs! so its a good supper haunt.

wheee. while eating. we felt a gust of wind. and the wind carried a distinctive smell. something so familiar. so strong. so appealing. its DURIANS! without hesitation, we headed over to the stall we went the other time to eat. hur hurs. 3 for $10 durians came.

was so excited! cos i had the cravin for q some time. UNFORTUNATELY. i ve to announce that the durian season s almost over. and the durians turned out a lil soggy and tasted weird. yikesss. only 1 out of the 3 durians was passable. but its teh company that counts lar. somehow always eat good stuff w wong. hur hurs. durians are one of them!! Prof yuen s jus so funny. she s full of funny 1-liners. me wong n justin were early!! given tt we went for tau huay the night before. hur hurs. the rochor tauhuay is duper yummy. i had the butterfly fritter with tauhuayzhui. but i had them from the not-so-famous stall beside rochor beancurd.for those who still dont't know. these 2 stalls are opened by brothers. they learnt the art of soy cooking from their mother since young bu whom has since passed away. they thn split up due to various issues and open a stall side by side, selling exactly the same foodstuffs or more. i personally prefer the non-famous one. see. for the famous one, they got so much popularity that it is possible they compromised on their quality. and since the non famous one has a much shorter or no queue, wad more can i ask for? (:

then after MA went for meetin w prof at SESS. then had meetin w marketing group.omg my mktg group rock socks laaa. we re gonna be doing on CONDOMS. hur hur hurs. friggin funny. huzer is a really entertaining guy. he shud be hired to be a comedian. hahas quite a fruitful discussion. after that, i went off to go home to change. and quickly went over to faceworks. mum signed me for a makeup and hairdo. hur hurs. cos its freshmen bash that night. and i was like invited to be one of the judges. yarpp. the make up turned out rather well! (: didnt make me look too old for once. but the hair kinda did that for me. boo. but oh wells its all in the name of fun. met benny after that! THE bday boy. hee he changed the venue for his celebration to MOS. easier for everyone he says. we had dinner at nectarie!! this bright and cheery place near the taxi stand. actually i was frantically lookin for a casual but nice place for a bdae treat dinner since i tot i was running late. thn nectarie appeared. perfecto. the whole decor of the place is very much alfresco. with a dessert display fridge inside as well as the sandwich bar. the walls of the cafe is transparent. so it gives a very open and carefree feeling.

we ordered a set meal to share since we were both not very hungy. the set meal's really worth it! like $15 for soup of the day, breakfast tea/coffee, choice of dessert, as well as a sandwich. its real nice seein benny after so long. hardly see him arnd in sch. somemore he s still teachin at ac barker. that boy s cool larh. won some award for best teacher in sec1 &2. proud of u benny!

the soup and the tea came first.

the soup was nice! could taste whole chunks of mushroom. and the portion was jus right. the breakfast tea was jus normal. tho the novelty of it is that it is served in those cylindrical instrument. hur hurs. rather neat way of presentation. (:

then the main came. smoke salmon with egg mayo on multigrain bread. the sandwich is awesome. the smoke salmon with egg mayo tasted fresh and good! didnt really tot of mixin the two together before. yarpps. the side garden salad was nice as well. i liked the sourness of the vinaigrette. over dinner, talked to benny about sch & all. realised as year2s. we ve really grown up. no longer bothering about whether sch s fun or whatever. all we wan is jus to absorb in learning and get a good degree. he s been rather busy with law as well. heard bout the monstrous loads of readings. oh wells. after the mains, we called for dessert. we can choose from mango mousse cake, chocolate cake with coconut mousse, the irish cream cake, or the choc truffle cake.

feeling adventurous, we took the one with the coconut mousse. and it turned out very nice! it has a layer of coconut mousse sandwiched between 2 layers of choco cake and it is topped with another layer of dark chocolate. then it has a white choc pc of decor and raspberry jam on the side. i requested for a lit candle since its benny s bdae! (: real nice service staff u have over at nectarie. they gladly helped me and even took photos for us. the dinner experience was wunnerful tho it was rather short.

then the pageant started. i was with prof margaret chan, prof low aikmeng, some rep from the sponsors as judges. for the girls, alicia won both Miss SMU as well as Miss Photogenic. as for the guys, Mark won the 2 awards. its rather fun! since its Ben's bdae and he ordered drinks for everyone and all. i got kinda high on that one. rahhh. but glad i saw so many frens! wong, justin, alicia, yolkies!jialing, jingmin, clara, robin, mindy, judith, gordon, jerry, alex, and many many others. omg. luckily my brudder came over to fetch me after the fun. else i d ve ended up dunno where.

for those who want the peektures u can link from here (:
Nectarie
BlkC, The Cannery
#01-05, River Valley Road
Clarke Quay
S179022
tel: 63056728
http://www.nectarie.com.sg

Lerk Thai

alrightt. went to school ydae basically for.GYM.and.GYM.and.GYM. omg. met yangwei justin & alicia for gym ydae! beeen long since i exercised with them. hee hee. real glad i did. WHO KNOWS. the wellness centre s closed!! unbelievable. so embarrassing. realised that we are supposed to start duty only next week!! AHHH. help. anws. thn went back gym to wait for them to finish gymming. thn headed to frujch to chill. my my. frujch has weird people. like weird couples making out under broad beam lights. RAH. but frujch s new menu was nice! had interesting & quirky names to boost their food items. justin & yangwei ate. while me & alicia jus chilled and waited. thn i left to meet nasir while they went off for dinner. hee. i finally got reimbursements from BSM back! (: saw a few of the BSM ppl. sorta miss them eh. SOMEHOW. really. thn had to rush off to meet yolks. so didnt ve time to catch up with mich. anws its her bdae tom!! doubt she ll be reading this but i d wanna wish her here!! hope she ll have a fantastic year ahead & may all her aspirations be realised. (: -hugg

alright..rushed off to meet yolks at bugis! that silly girl was bummin arnd since 5ish! my my. she had interview for redbull job! cool beans lar. get to promote energy drinks. so apt for such an energetic girl like her. ppl please be nice to her okay!! (: decided to go thai. so ended up at Lerk Thai, this Thai eatery near Bugis Street. It was rather packed for a weekday night. and people were still coming in even though it was 8-ish. there was some promotion, for min spending of 20 bucks, there will be a tom yam soup that cost only 2 bucks. so we took that up! i ordered rice with olives & mince pork while yolks ordered tang hoon. the soup came first!

for a $2 bowl of tomyamsoup. the soup is nice! in fact, there were substantial amount of seafood inside. with squids, fish pieces, prawns. however, the broth is a little "thin" and they try to enhance the taste by adding more lemongrass and what not. which made the taste too overwhelming for such texture of soup. but of cos. its 2 bucks only. whats there to complain about?? (:

alright, then my olive rice came. forgot to take photo of it before the service staff helped to mix the ingredients up. it d have looked much prettier! but the smell of it was like PHWOAH-ly tempting. i love olive rice! sad thing is thai express dont wanna sell em to me. SOOO i decided not to eat olive rice at thai express ever. and here, Lerk Thai offers true blue authentic olive rice. they even mixed in cashew nuts, citrus lemon pieces, as well as chilli padi to suit my taste. i love how the cashew nuts, fried olives and minced pork mix so well with the rice. even yolks agreeed that the olive rice smelt good!! -thumbs up-. unfortunately, they didnt have a smaller size, else i d ve finished it up. but their portions are meant for family size of 3-4! SERIOUSLY. i was tryin my best to finish. but i really couldnt take it already. yolks's tanghoon came before my olive rice. her tang hoon is moist alright, but i think there isnt enough flavor in the dish. but yolks say its still alright larh. (: very happy. my screen s now scratch free and nice. wheee. after that went to the gym to work out. thn gave tuition near my house. wah christabelle s getting lazyyy. i d better push her more. TSK. kids these days. oh wells. after that met jerome for dinner! fetched him from timbre that side. and he wanted to show me this damn nice eating place. so i allowed him to direct me to old airport road hawker centre. boy its rather near sch!! (: by car of cos. haven met jerome for ages! good catchin up with him. he is flying off to taiwan soonish for field trip with his cadets i tink. so being the fickle minded us. we walked round and round the place. and i decided to go back to the first stall i spotted. Xin Mei Congee.

this congee stall is apparently rather famous, appearing in various reviews and television shows on Channel U. i was craving for something hot and runny. so porridge seemed like an apt choice. the queue was longgg. even though it was already 745pm. but i decided that good food is worth waiting for. after about 20 mins. i finally got to order my fish slice century egg porridge. jerome decided to eat fish beehoon jus a few stalls away. supposedly famous too! (: old airport road is a new gem.

what i like about xin mei is that they serve the youtiao whole. while usually porridge stalls give cut up ones. the you tiao complemented the porridge well. unfortunately, it was a tad too oily for my liking. the porridge is good though! whole pieces of fish is found and they are generous with the century egg helpings. they were also generous with the shallots and spring onions which added much flavour to the runny bowl of delight. id recommend this place for supper as the food is easy on the stomach and delicious at the same time. after dinner we just sat there to talk until late 9-ish. shared with him my experience in US and all. its really nice catchin up with good frens. knowing more about their lives and being involved in them. after that got a drink from GoGoBeanz. this soybean stall that make their soybean products fresh daily. i had the warm almond soymilk. its not bad! (: took one of their cards. realised they ve got branches at other markets as well.

yay! gonna go shopping with yolks tomorrow. wheee. cant wait.

Xin Mei Congee
Blk51 Old Airport Rd

#01-91

GoGoBeanz

Blk51 Old Airport Rd

#01-56

Tel: 63446005

far coast cafe

great old sundays. nice weather to just chill all day longgg. had tuition at 10ish with christabelle. that girl s getting restless. hahas but somehow still adorable. as usual. gave her peektures and passages to prepare her for her oral examination for both languages tom. ha she was squabbling w her sis over her ipod. kinda reminded me of me & wilson. always pickin at each other over these minute stuffs. hur hurs

headed over to far coast to do my readings after that. reckon i wont do much at home. which holds true since i haven done much after i got back home. tsk tsk. procrastinator deserves to be spanked. hmmms far coast is a gem in town! like a quiet little place. it is located at international building, just across far east shoppin centre. used to be xuliushan, this dessert outlet that sells mango desserts. i got down to read my politics n all. about ideologies and political tendencies that evolved over the years.

this cosy cafe is really deserving of 2nd visits because of its convenient location, as well as its free wireless access. i ordered a cuppa pure brew ginger moon tea. its mildly sweetened and has a strong ginger taste of spices. yumm. just the right thing to have to warm my tummy before lunch. sadly for the business but gladly for me, there wasnt much of a crowd today which made it an even more conducive place for my readings. -beams-

was feeling hungry.. so headed off to order a cajun chicken & mango wrap as well as a old granny raisin scone with organic jam & cream. the wrap was mediocre, thought it was a tad oily and the wrap skin was too chewy for my liking. the filling is tasty though. I could taste the cajun chicken wholely. however, more mango pieces could have been added so that i know im eating a cajun chic & MANGO wrap. yuppes. the scone on the other hand, was lovely. it wasnt over baked and its crust crumbles to a right extent. once again, there could have been more raisins. but the jam made up for it. the organic jam served with it is great. it complemented the scone well! aights. overall a good experience today at far coast. will definitely visit it again. prolly for breakfast on a lazy sunday morning. (: and headed off to tend to the booth. kevin was real nice by being at the booth the whole time. we ve got like 70 plus ppl who signed up! well donee. the whole CCA day ended at 6 and we had to show our ACF night piece to the ACF ppl in charge at 7. was a really REALLY long day ydae. after that i was about to head home when krish suggested going dempsey!! i havent been there before and since everyone was hyped bout gg, i joined in too! drove 4 of em to dempsey and met the rest there.

we headed for P.S Cafe, which is the same one as the cafe at the Project Shop@ Paragon. for a friday night, the place was of course packed to the brim. reservations were running non-stop and we were slotted in 1.5 hrs later. goshh. but since we were too tired.lazy.nua. to move anywhere. we just sat at the waiting area. played some dummy games and all. managed to hang in there for nearly an hour and we finally got our seats! the whole place has a nice ambience, with cushion seats and ornaments. it is a perfect place to just chill out with your friends over the weekend night or share a speical moment with ur loved ones. i ordered the sting prawn salad as i wasnt really hungry. the portions were alright, but they could ve given more prawns. the dressing was tangy and the greens were fresh. and the prawns were absolutely delicious! they were really crunchy and juicy at the same time. then with pinenuts shattered amidst the greens, it adds a nutty flavor to the dressing. perfecto!

we were split into two tables, with me krish kenny & mabel on one table, and andrew, joshua, francesca, zhimin and ernest on the other. after dinner, we all squeezed with the other table and ordered desserts. there was the almond hazelnut with ice cream & cream puff as well as mudpie with marshmallow. both were very nice! however, the almond hazelnut could ve been more consumer-frenly. there are 2 thick layers of almond hazelnut sandwiched btw 2 layers of sponge cake. as quoted from Francesca, "eating this is like working at a construction site" haha basically we had to knock the almond hazelnut brick into pieces. made quite a mess outta it. gosh. but the taste of it was good.

after eating, we decided to play truth & truth. asked really censored stuffs larh. hahahas kenny la. started them all. hur hurs end up being the one with the dirty secrets. hahas left them halfway tho. to meet wong jus at the entrance of dempsey for some kickass durians!!!! (been refraining for quite some time cos i didnt wanna fall sick before performance). hahas true enuff. the durians are REALLY kickass. two of us ate a grand total of 4 durians!!! (: heee well done. kept cracking open to see if there are anymore seeds. was really a satisfying day. hur hurs. as many may already know, washing your hands with water in the durian husk will get rid of the stench on ur hands. till now, im still amazed by this unrefutable fact. hahas this fruit never fail to amaze me. whee lookin forward to a durian feast again.

aights. lotsa stuffs to do. readings hw. all piling up again. till the next discovery, ciaos!

PS Cafe
28 Harding Road
Tel: 90708782

Thai Express Singapore

alrighttt.. school finally started! first lesson was intro to psychology. wah when i first went into the class, there was no one i knew. seriously. most of them were year ones and somehow the rest I dont know them either. but after forming groups and all, gotta know a few of them. nice people! (: anws. intro to psych s interesting! hur hurs. at least i can get away from the usual biz stuff to go deeper into the human thinking process and behaviourial patterns. thn had mktg w wong n justin! our prof s hilarious larh. he s from korea, and he says jokes with a straight face. my my. laughed a shit load. thn ydae i had MA in the morn. w kat yuen. she s very nice too!! nice lady from hk. & she talks exactly like my dad. haha. after MA i plodded down to booklink to grab my books. its so frustrating that we are required to buy the latest editions, and when the next batch comes, they change the editions again. ARGHH overflowing of past textbooks at home. GRRS. met shimin & mervyl for lunch after that. decided to get abit away fr sch to eat. so we got down to Thai Express at Raffles City. I had eaten at other outlets a few times, and thought their phad thai was good. but... I love olive fried rice. and without fail. they always disappoint me. total of 3 times at different branches already. olive fried rice is quite the signature dish in Thai cuisine, and if Thai Express wants to capture Thai-food lovers like me, they d better do something about this soon. hur hurs. so i ordered the fried glass noodles with prawns.

the sight of it was alright, but when i dug into it, the glass noodles were dry and lumpy. there is no distinctive taste of the seasoning at all. I had to dap the noodles in the chilli powder at the side for it to even have flavour. the prawns did live up to what they state as "succulent". and they did give a substantial amount of them. overall the dish is not really recommended if you are looking at having good thai cuisine. However, their phad thai beef has somehow maintained their standards. for me, i will go Thai Express only for their phad thai in the future. i d rather call up jingmin to go Thai Noodle House anytime for their authentic thai cuisine (plus they ALWAYS have my olive rice)

yarps. chatted over lunch about school and all. Mervyl s like gonna graduate this dec. how fast. blahhh i still got like 3.5 yrs. well done. hur hurs. after lunch i headed to mr tea for a short while to grab my fav ginger marsala! (: never fail to be yummy. then met nasir and seok for OOPS! thn i had my counselling class. its fun! prof tim n tan are really passionate advocates for counselling. their visions and ideas did come into reality in the SMU Peer Helping programme. i hope i can equip myself with the necessary skills to help people around. whee i like my mods this term.

looking at all the freshmen in sch, kinda reminded me of how i was exactly like them last year. pretty nostalgic. moving on to year 2, its a different ball game. higher expectations (of self and from others), greater committments, more responsibilities. AHH. i realised. i grew up. its almost only ydae that i was still playing catching during recess in st margs, eating orange bowl with my frens back in st nicks. or ponning lectures to go coro to eat in HC. gosh. time really didnt wait for slowpokes like me. oh wells

aights gotta head to sch to set up booth for choir soonish. performance for CCA day today! They also sell cakes in french portions, such as chocate hazelnut, classic cheesecake and so on. I went into the store, and inevitably, a box of macarons of diff flavors were staring at my face. ahhas i just couldnt resist. priced at $1.50 each, i thought it was abit expensive. nonetheless, since i have heard so much about macarons and have yet to try, i decided to give it a shot. i bought the hazelnut, chocolate, mandarin orange & raspberry flavored ones. the hazelnut one tasted abit like fererro rocher, while the chocolate one tasted too sweet. i liked the raspberry one the best. it has a spongy texture of raspberry with a layer of chocolate spread inside. very delightful.

besides selling baked goods, the place also whips up a variety of coffee and tea, as well as sandwiches for people to enjoy dining in. The place has cosy lightings and give customers a homely feel. This will be an excellent place for a lazy sunday brunch.

Choupinette
607 Bt Timah Rd
#01-01 S269708
Tel/Fax: 64660613
person of contact: Agnes Verrier
Mobile: 97694246
agnes@choupinette.com.sg

alrightttt!!! welcome to this new blog!
